Michael G. Thorson, PE, LEED AP Founding Principal | Emeritus

Mike Thorson is a founding principal of Thorson • Baker + Associates. While at TBA, Mike was responsible for client relations, project administration and the management and preparation of construction documents. Mike took an active role in projects from inception through design, construction documents, and construction. In addition to managing the firm and directing the firm’s growth, he was very active on projects establishing structural systems, preparation of the design preliminary, project administration, tracking schedules and quality assurance for compliance with the technical and graphic standards of the firm.

As of January 2019, Mike happily retired and is enjoying traveling and spending time with his family.


Gordon R. Baker, PE, LEED AP Founding Principal | Emeritus

Gordon Baker is a founding principal of Thorson • Baker + Associates. His creativity and diligence to help build a successful firm are a few of the characteristics of his drive and spirit. Gordon has proven himself as a leader and inspiration in his field. He is always mentoring the staff to strive for the best they can be in structural design and management. Gordon’s attention to detail and hard work shows in the quality assurance and work ethic of the firm. He has designed and supervised many complex successful projects throughout his career.

As of January 2019, Gordon has been enjoying his retirement full of hunting, golfing, and spending time with his family.


Jeffery D. Miterko, PE, LEED AP Principal | Electrical

Jeff joined Thorson • Baker + Associates (TBA) in February 1997. He is responsible for the management of our electrical department including development and implementation of department standards. Jeff provides engineering design support for our project managers, project engineers, and designers. He is also responsible for quality control, and supervises the preparation of construction documents. Jeff is very sensitive to economy of construction due to his extensive retail experience and working relationships with developers and construction managers.


David L. Nemeth, PE, LEED AP Principal | Structural

Dave joined Thorson • Baker + Associates, in June 1997. His experience as a structural engineer combined with his strong leadership and design skills made an immediate impact. Quickly rising to the level of Associate and Senior Project Manager, Dave was named a Principal of the firm in 2005. He has served as lead engineer and project manager on a wide variety of project types including corporate, residential, institutional, commercial, and retail. He is responsible for supervising the production of structural construction documents from project inception through construction administration and provides design support for structural project engineers.


Dennis P. Maille, PE, LEED AP Principal | Structural

Dennis is experienced in many areas of structural engineering. During his 20+ years with TBA he has served as project engineer, project manager and principal on a variety of engineering projects. The extent of his involvement has included structural design, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and construction administration.

His 40+ years of project experience includes commercial, corporate, retail, medical, institutional, industrial, and public projects. He is sensitive to the economy of construction and the importance of meeting challenging deadlines due to his extensive experience and professional relationships with developers and construction managers.


Guy R. Hicks, PE, LEED AP Principal | Mechanical

Guy joined Thorson • Baker + Associates, in April 2008 as a Principal in the Mechanical Engineering Department after 17 years as Principal and Owner of Keyser/Hicks Engineering, Inc. His knowledge of the building industry is enhanced by nine years of construction experience prior to 33 years of engineering and design experience, an invaluable background when providing construction administration/observation services. His impressive portfolio includes the design of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and energy management systems for institutional and educational buildings.


Donald J. Schehl, PE, SE, LEED AP Principal | Structural

Since joining Thorson • Baker + Associates in 2000, Don has served as project engineer and project manager on a variety of engineering projects. The extent of his involvement has included structural design, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and construction administration. Named a Principal of the firm in 2009, Don’s project experience includes corporate, medical, commercial, retail, and public projects. He has demonstrated a talent for the design of complex structures and continues to excel in project coordination and administration.


Juan L. Castro, LEED AP Principal | Retail Studio Manager | Mechanical

Since joining Thorson • Baker + Associates in May 1997, Juan has been responsible for the mechanical design, engineering and project management for numerous commercial and retail projects throughout the United States. He provides engineering design support for project engineers and designers, supervises the preparation of construction documents, and is responsible for quality control. He has more than 20 years of experience and previously worked in the industrial market.


David S. Morgan, PE Principal | Structural

Since joining Thorson • Baker + Associates (TBA) in February 2005, Dave has moved through several promotions including Project Manager, Associate, and now Principal. His strong technical skills and valued leadership are impressive. Dave understands intricate problems in design and offers solutions quickly and effortlessly. In addition to providing design support to structural project engineers, Dave serves as lead engineer and project manager on a variety of project types including corporate, residential, institutional, commercial, and retail.


Nicholas E. Steinert, PE, LEED AP Principal | Structural

Since originally joining Thorson • Baker + Associates in 1995, Nick has demonstrated his well-rounded abilities in both design and project management through his extensive array of projects. His experience includes hospitality, parking, retail, entertainment, institutional, governmental, commercial, and medical projects nationwide. In 2007, Nick rejoined TBA as an Associate and applied his technical knowledge and project management experience to develop our Cincinnati office. By using the skills and engineering principles learned while working in the Richfield office, he offers the same attentive service, creative design solutions, and attention to detail that have become hallmarks of the TBA organization. Nick was named a Principal of the firm in 2013.


Nathaniel J. Kobb, PE, CxA, LEED AP Principal | Mechanical, Commissioning

Nate joined Thorson • Baker + Associates, in July 2001 and is responsible for the design of HVAC systems for a variety of commercial and institutional projects including high-rise residential, healthcare, educational, and retail projects. He is responsible for supervising the production of mechanical construction documents from project inception through construction administration and provides design support for mechanical project managers.


Robert L. Piriak, PE Principal | Principal | Structural

Rob joined Thorson • Baker + Associates (TBA) in 2006 with seven years of experience in engineering and hands-on construction. His wide range of knowledge and experience in numerous construction types and methods has allowed him to manage as well as take on an active role in the design of projects of varying complexity. Rob has been involved in projects in a variety of fields, including K-12 and higher education, healthcare, commercial, industrial, and renovation. Rob became an Principal in March of 2023. 


Ryan Wagner Principal | Principal | Electrical

Since joining Thorson • Baker + Associates in 1999, Ryan serves as Principal and Director for our Columbus, Ohio office. He is responsible for the production of electrical construction documents from project inception through construction administration. Ryan’s experience in the electrical design of retail and commercial buildings includes conceptual design, preparation of construction documents and energy code compliance documentation, and assistance in project closeout. He also provides electrical design support for electrical project engineers and designers.
